Man arrested over disappearance of roommate from Lagos apartment overnight

Habeeb Abdulsalam

A man simply identified as Jide has been arrested by the police over the disappearance of his roommate, Habeeb Abdulsalam from their apartment on Odulesi Street, Bariga, Lagos State.

It was gathered that the 26-year-old builder and Jide went to bed on August 23, but the former was nowhere to be found at dawn.

Several calls placed to Abdulsalam’s two mobile reportedly indicated they were switched off, thereby creating fears in the neighbourhood.

According to PUNCH, Abdulsalam’s elder brother, Shittu, said the family reported him missing to the Ilaje Police Division and Jide was invited for questioning.

He said, “I called his phone numbers that Tuesday morning but they didn’t go through. We have been searching for him since then. He is a building contractor. The bag he usually takes to work is at home. If he had left home with the bag and his power bank, we would have assumed that he had gone to work.

“He slept at home on Monday with his friend, Jide. We reported the case to the police and the friend was invited. He told the police he didn’t know his whereabouts. He said he woke up and didn’t find him in the room. He is still in police custody.”

Shittu said his brother and Jide had been living together since Abdulsalam was in the polytechnic, adding that nobody had reached out to the family to demand a ransom or inform them about his whereabouts.

He said, “He attended a polytechnic in Lagos. They have been living together for a long time. My brother has graduated but Jide is still in school. The police are still investigating the case.”
