Niger State Government has said that, henceforth, all articulated heavy-duty vehicles were being diverted from the Minna City Center, the state capital, starting from Tuesday, October 19, 2021.
Commissioner for Works and Infrastructural Development, Hon. Mamman Musa, stated this in a press statement issued and made available to newsmen on Tuesday, in Minna, the state capital.
He explained that the diversion was necessary and immediate, because trailers were destroying the city’s infrastructures and are also dangerous to the lives and property of the residents, thus must be stopped.
“Henceforth, all articulated heavy-duty vehicles are diverted away from Minna City Center, starting from Tuesday, the 19th of October 2021, as part of efforts to safeguard the city infrastructure, protect lives and property.
“Road point zero post office to 10km radius of the city centre is not allowed for trucks,” the commissioner stated.
Hon. Mamman Musa also stated that Governor Abubakar Sani Bello has directed all articulated and heavy-duty vehicles coming from Zungeru to Abuja or from Abuja to Zungeru axis of the state to be diverted either from the city gate in Chanchaga through Kpakungu or Immurat junction in Tudun Fulani through the western bypass.
The statement reads in part, “the government of Governor Abubakar Sani Bello is exploring all means to overlay the Gen. Abdulsalam Alhaji Abubakar Bosso road with asphalt to enhance its lifespan and will not allow any truck to destroy it.”
It, however, charged relevant traffic authorities in the state to key in on the stoppage of all heavy-duty trucks passing to use the diversion, while urging Nigerlites and the general public to cooperate and support the efforts of the state government.
