An unidentified person was killed and another was injured in an accident involving a Mack truck and a tricycle on Monday at the Women Development Centre in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State’s capital.

The tricycle, a KVS King with registration number JW740KET, is believed to belong to AMITEC Construction Company with registration number KPR321XA and the truck to AMITEC Construction Company with registration number KPR321XA.

According to an eyewitness who talked with newsmen in Uyo on the condition of anonymity, the tricycle drove into the halted truck in an effort to avoid the dangerous parts of the IBB road, killing the female passenger who was seated in front of the tricycle.

“The keke man was trying to avoid those bad portions of the road and maybe he did not see the truck that was parked there, he jammed the truck. The lady that was sitting in front died at the spot while he sustained injuries,” he said.

The Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Matthew Olonisaye, who disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday, said the cause of the accident was a result of brake failure.

He, therefore, advised vehicle owners to take the maintenance of their vehicles seriously, stressing that the command would not take it lightly with vehicle owners who compromise on this.

“Vehicle owners should not take maintenance of their vehicles for granted. The Sector command will continue to be hard on owners of vehicles that are not roadworthy. Road users should obey traffic rules and regulations and continue to cooperate with our operatives to minimize road mishaps,” Olonisaye said.

He prayed to God to grant the dead eternal rest and the family the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.
