Katsina: NDLEA gets court approval to destroy 22 tons of hard drugs

The Federal High Court in Katsina State has approved the destruction of 22 tons of hard narcotics collected by agents of the Nigeria Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, in Katsina State during the previous two years.

According to the state’s acting NDLEA Commandant, Dr. Nnana Nworisa, the confiscated narcotics included hard drugs as well as psychotropic chemicals that may change people’s behavior, thoughts, emotions, and perceptions, among other things.

Nworisa, while appealing to all stakeholders in the state to join hands with the NDLEA in tackling the menace of drug abuse, stressed that: “the state command will not stop its onslaught against drug peddlers until all illicit drugs are completely out of circulation in the state.”

He disclosed this recently while hosting the Emir of Katsina, HRH. Abdulmumini Kabir Usman, and his entourage at the NDLEA command in the state.

Nworisa said: “The Federal High Court in the state has given us the go-ahead to destroy 22 tons of hard drugs seized from suspected drug peddlers after they have been tried and sentenced by the law court.

“We are pleased to have the Emir of Katsina, HRH. Abdulmumini Kabir Usman, accompanied by a large number of his entourage, at the state’s Command to see for themselves the seized drugs and other achievements of the command in the state.”

In his remarks, the Emir of Katsina expressed shock at the large quantities of drugs intercepted by the narcotic agents in the state.

While applauding the effort of the Katsina NDLEA command, the Emir expressed confidence that tackling the drug menace in the state will contribute immensely to winning the war against banditry and other related crimes currently bedevilling the state.
