Terrorism: FG approves additional assets for Nigerian military

The federal government has approved extra assets to boost the Nigerian military campaign against Boko Haram and Islamic State’s West Africa Province (ISWAP).

A statement on Saturday by Army Director of Public Relations, Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu confirmed the assent.

Defence Minister, Bashir Magashi made the announcement on Friday when he visited troops of Joint Task Force North East Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK).

The retired General said more equipment and logistics for operational enhancement would help to further combat terrorism and insurgency in Nigeria.

Magashi was at the Theater Command Operation Headquarters alongside Chief of Defence Staff, Leo Irabor, Service Chiefs and Chief of Defence Intelligence (CDI).

The team recently embarked on a joint assessment of ongoing operations to monitor progress and get first-hand information on achievements, challenges and requirements.

“We are fully committed to providing all the necessary resources to enable you do your job professionally to the best of your ability. We have seen your commitment and are proud of you”, Magashi said.

The minister thanked President Muhammadu Buhari for his support and expressed optimism that success is near with sustained determination against terrorists.

Magashi received briefs from the Theatre Commander OPHK, Major General Christopher Musa, and other senior officers.

He also commissioned two buildings newly constructed as transit accommodation for officers of the Joint Task Force Headquarters.
