A 60-year-old man, simply named as Emmanuel, was slashed to death in a bush in Orogun Community in Delta State’s Ughelli North Local Government Area.

According to reports, the event occurred on Saturday, October 30, 2021.

Comrade Israel Joe, a Warri-based human rights activist, attracted the notice of the Delta State Police Command, commanded by CP Ari Muhammed Ali, and the Area Commander in Ughelli North to the heinous occurrence on his Facebook page.

He said that on Monday, one Akporuaro reportedly murdered the deceased.

Comrade Joe said the suspect had allegedly directed his son to tell the victim he would kill him if he refuses to steer clear of the bush where he set traps to catch bush meat.

According to Comrade Joe, “It’s on record that after the incident, the suspect immediately left the Community until his son was arrested. He was forced to return and reported at your station (DPO Orogun) that he murdered the victim and not his son. That his son should be released.

“The IPO who is now alleged to have been convincing the family of the victim to accept settlement against the ethics and laws of the Nigerian Police Force.

“Such issues should be transferred to State CID (Homicide) for further investigations and prosecution. Justice is core and should be given credence as far as the matter is concerned.”

The Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Bright Edafe, in a telephone chat with our correspondent confirmed the murder of the victim.

However, he could not confirm if any arrest had been made.
