‘A slap in the face’ – Rudiger fumes over Chelsea’s latest contract offer

Chelsea defender, Antonio Rudiger, reportedly feels the club’s latest contract offer is a ‘slap in the face,’ Bild reports.

Rudiger was left fuming after Chelsea fell short of his wage demands by £60,000-a-week.

The report added that Rudiger is looking for £10m-a-year, which works out to around £190k-a-week.

But Chelsea are only offering him £7m-a-year – which is around £130k-a-week.

The 28-year-old has been one of Chelsea’s star men since Thomas Tuchel took charge from Frank Lampard in January.

Rudiger’s contract with Chelsea will expire at the end of the season and he is yet to sign an extension amid rumoured interest from other top European clubs.

Providing an update on his contract situation with the club in October, Rudiger said, “The most important thing is that I feel happy here [at Chelsea].

“I think if people look at it, they can see I am happy. About the contract situation, I talked with the club. This is for nobody’s ears.

“It was how I said it would be after the Euros – there would be talks. There was a talk between Marina [Granovskaia, a Chelsea director] and my agent.

“We have the situation where we’re at now and I have nothing to do with all the speculation. This is not in my mind.

“I am focused on what I am doing because this is why I wake up every morning.”
