Corpse of kidnap victim in Kwara community discovered in forest

The remains of a victim kidnapped last Saturday in Olla community, Isin Local Government Area, Kwara State, was discovered in a forest on Wednesday.

Recall that unknown gunmen attacked and kidnapped one Adegboyega Onijala, believed to be a relation of a monarch in the town, in the Olla village on Saturday around 7 p.m., shooting sporadically.

The kidnappers allegedly wanted a ransom of millions of naira in exchange for the victim’s release.

Although some of the money was purportedly paid, the victim was killed by the kidnappers.

According to a report by Daily Post, the body was discovered in the forest during the search and rescue operation by the local hunters and vigilantes on Wednesday morning.

A member of the victim’s family, who requested anonymity, revealed that the victim lost much blood as a result of the injury sustained from machete cuts in the hands of the kidnappers in the forest.

Spokesman of the Kwara Police Command, Okasanmi Ajayi in Ilorin on Sunday, said the state police commissioner, Tuesday Assayomo, had directed the anti-kidnapping and other tactical teams in conjunction with local hunters and vigilantes to launch a search and rescue operation for the victim and possible arrest of the masterminds.

The victim, said to be a brother of a former aide to former President Goodluck Jonathan, Hon. Onijala, was ambushed by the kidnappers on his way home from his farm around the community in the operation which lasted almost one hour.

At the point of his abduction, he sustained serious injuries from machete cuts as he resisted the attack by the kidnappers.

The police spokesman was yet to respond to a text message sent to him at the time of this report on Wednesday.
