A seven-year sentence has been imposed on a civil servant in the Ondo State Public Service.

Kamilu Aminu, a civil servant with the State Hospital Management Board, was found guilty of stealing N7 million.

Aminu, who worked at the Specialist Hospital in Ikare-Akoko, the state’s headquarters for the Akoko North East Local Government Area, was accused of committing the crime in 2017.

While delivering the sentence, Justice William Olamide of the State High Court stated that the convict’s evidence to exonerate himself of guilt in the accusation of stealing government funds was devoid of substance.

However, the judge acquitted the second defendant, Azeez Musa as he emphasized that Aminu solely committed the offence.

While directing that others should be restored to their former positions, Justice Olamide stated that the sentence will serve as a deterrent to other civil servants planning to perpetrate fraud.
