Six people were killed in a traffic accident on Christmas Day, only hours after seven people perished in a luxury bus accident on the Ososa bridge.
On Saturday about 3:20 a.m., a deadly collision occurred along the Lagos-Ibadan highway, directly across from the Elanlan construction zone.
Aside from the deaths, 12 others were alleged to have suffered varied degrees of injury while 18 people were rescued from the tragedy on Long Bridge by traffic regulating officials.
According to Florence Okpe, a spokesman for the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Ogun State, the collision involved a Toyota Hiace bus with the registration number MKA567XZ and an Iveco trailer with the registration number XF854KTN.
“The suspected causes of the crash were road obstruction, excessive speed and loss of control,” Okpe informed.
It was disclosed that the injured victims were taken to different hospitals – some to Lagos State Accident and Emergency Centre, Ojota; some to Divine Touch Hospitals, Ibafo and others were conveyed to Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital (OOUTH), Sagamu.
Okpe told newsmen that the dead bodies were deposited at Idera mortuary, Sagamu.
She added that a sum of N127,900 was recovered from the crash scene, saying the Ogun FRSC Sector Commander, Ahmed Umar, has advised motorists to drive cautiously, urging them to contact the FRSC, Ibafo outpost for more information about the crash.
