Sylvester Oromoni: Lagos lists conditions to reopen Dowen College, reviews boarding schools

Following the death of Sylvester Oromoni, the Lagos State Government has asked the management of Dowen College, Lekki, to make repairs.

Folasade Adefisayo, the Commissioner of Education, stated that identified deficiencies in administration uncovered during the inspection and inquiry must be corrected.

The ministry’s stance on Thursday is in line with the Department of Public Prosecutions’ (DPP) opinion, which states that Oromoni’s death was not caused by bullying.

As the second term of Dowen College begins, Adefisayo said the government was evaluating the boarding school’s operational standards and the prerequisites for formation.

In a statement, the commissioner announced that the ministry will begin the revalidation of all existing boarding school facilities after the mid-term holidays.

She disclosed that monitoring and inspection of schools were being overhauled to improve efficiency.

Adefisayo confirmed that Dowen College management had been mandated to work on school governance gaps, as well as other regulatory issues.
