Transfer: Chelsea suffer major blow as Liverpool star leaves Anfield for new club

Chelsea have suffered a major blow in their first approach to recall Emerson Palmieri from Lyon this January transfer window.

This was disclosed by football transfer expert, Fabrizio Romano, in a tweet via his Twitter at the weekend.

Emerson is currently on loan at Lyon from Chelsea.

“Chelsea are still trying to recall Emerson Palmieri as left back, Tuchel wants him. OL turned down first approach but Chelsea are pushing again – prepared to offer compensation.

“Lucas Digne deal now looking very unlikely. Nothing advanced. Everton ask for permanent move,” Romano tweeted.

Meanwhile, Liverpool academy goalkeeper, Liam Hughes, has left the club to join Stalybridge Celtic on loan for the remainder of the season.

Liverpool confirmed this in a statement via their website.

Hughes moved to Liverpool from Glasgow Celtic last January and then signed a new contract with the club during the summer.

The 20-year-old has been part of the Reds’ U23s squad since his arrival.

He has also twice been named on the senior team’s bench by Liverpool manager, Jürgen Klopp.
