DSS, NSCDC officials arrested for alleged ‘abduction’ of bureau de change operator

Accomplice who hired DSS officials to abduct the victim

Two personnel of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps and the Department of State Services have been arrested by the police for their role in the alleged abduction of a bureau de change operator in Osun State.

WITHIN NIGERIA had reported that the prime suspect in the crime, Akeem Ajibola, while being paraded had said five DSS officers joined him to abduct the bureau de change operator, identified simply as Bala.

The state Commissioner of Police, Wale Olokode, said the command’s surveillance squad during investigation arrested one of the perpetrators in Osogbo and assured that others would be apprehended and made to face the full wrath of the law.

Ajibola, while answering questions from journalists, explained that the victim refused to pay in full for a gold necklace worth N972,000, which he sold to him.

He admitted to calling DSS officers who assisted him to arrest the victim, adding that after Bala was arrested, he was forced to pay a sum of N210,000 before he was released.

The suspect further said the money was shared among those involved in the operation, while N15,000 was given to him from the money.

The CP said the DSS men had been arrested but were not paraded by the police.

The state police command’s spokesperson, Yemisi Opalola, who confirmed the arrest of the two officers in an interview with PUNCH on Sunday said the DSS and NSCDC personnel involved in the act had been arrested.

She said, “Two men are in our custody. One of them works with the NSCDC, while the other works with the DSS.

“They were arrested in connection with the abduction of a bureau de change operator here in Osogbo, who was made to pay money before he was released. The prime suspect in the matter is also in our custody. Investigation is still on into the matter.”
