Police rescue 16 kidnap victims in Kaduna

Police in Kaduna state has stated that 16 persons abducted along the Birnin Gwari road in the state have been rescued.

The development was confirmed on Monday via a statement released by police public relations officer in the state, Mohammed Jalige.

Jalige said the command received information from the divisional police officer (DPO) in Buruku that some persons suspected to be victims of kidnapping were seen around Masallaci area in Birnin Gwari.

According to him, the success recorded in rescuing the victims was achieved due to the support and vigilance of residents in the community.

He urged other communities to cooperate with security operatives to protect their areas from criminals.

“On the strength of the report, the DPO immediately mobilised the personnel on a rescue mission to the area,” he said.

“On sighting the advancing troops, the hoodlums took to their heels, leaving behind 16 victims whom the operatives successfully rescued.”

In another development, the police said its operatives recovered a Toyota Corolla car suspiciously parked at old tipper garage in Mango area of Kaduna on January 16.

The police spokesperson said investigation conducted showed that the vehicle was stolen from its owner at gunpoint in Zaria.

“The operatives of the command attached to Kawo division immediately swung into action and recovered the vehicle, with registration number: KSF 674 HD to the station for further investigation and possible arrest of the perpetrators,” he said.

He added that the command is working to identify the owner of the vehicle.
