Update: Three dead, two rescued after seven hours under collapsed Yaba building

Rescue operations at the Yaba building collapse

No fewer than three persons have been recovered dead and two victims rescued alive under the rubbles of the three-storey building which collapsed in the Yaba area of Lagos State on Saturday.

WITHIN NIGERIA had reported that the three-storey building still under construction collapsed into another building beside it on Akanbi Crescent in the Yaba area of Lagos State.

The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency and other sister agencies arrived were said to have arrived the scene an hour after the collapse to begin rescue operations.

The Director General, LASEMA, Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, who confirmed the development said all the bodies recovered were adult males, and that efforts are being intensified to save more lives.

Oke-Osanyintolu disclosed this in a statement released by the agency’s spokesperson, Nosa Okunbor, titled, ‘Situation Report on Collapsed Building on Akanbi Street Close to Unilag Main Gate’.

He stated that the emergency responders recovered the bodies and rescued others still alive following swift deployment of the agency’s heavy duty equipment.

The statement read, “Update: one adult male has also been recovered dead from under the rubble.

“Total count as of 23:00hrs. Rescued alive: 2 adult males. Recovered dead: 3 adult males.”

He added that the recovery operation was still ongoing for other victims.
