After being raped by an elementary teacher in Unguwan Fantaro, Kachia Local Government Area of Kaduna state, in June 2021, 12-year-old hawker, named Halimu has given birth to a baby boy.
The victim was impregnated after being lured by the teacher while hawking chin-chin, a popular Nigerian snack in her village.
Halima was deceived by the teacher simply identified as Salihu under the guise of buying chin-chin worth N200. Salihu reportedly covered Halima’s mouth and then defiled her.
Three months later, the victim was discovered to be pregnant and was placed under the custody of the Kaduna State Ministry of Human Services and Social Development through the Ummulkhairi Foundation.
Confirming her delivery to newsmen, the state Commissioner of Human Services and Social Development, Hafsat Baba, said the girl was successfully delivered of a baby boy.
“The little girl gave birth to a baby boy three weeks ago, and I am happy the doctors at Barau Dikko Hospital were able to manage her well to give birth on her own, rather than allowing her to go through a caesarean section.
Though the baby is with us, we just handed her over to her mother on Wednesday. We are, however, not leaving any stone unturned to see that justice prevails and the man who put the little girl in a family way pays for his action.”Hafsat Baba said
The Commissioner noted that the culprit has been arrested and is in police custody..
