Bayelsa govt reacts to Diri, Dickson reported ‘division’

The Bayelsa State Government has stated that Governor Douye Diri’s relationship with his predecessor, Senator Seriake Dickson, is still cordial.

Ayibaina Duba, the State’s Commissioner for Information, issued a statement denying the rumours both in and out of the country.

The administration also denied that Diri sparked dissension in the Peoples Democratic Party’s Bayelsa chapter (PDP).

Duba refuted claims that his principal was ungrateful to people who helped him win the governorship race in 2019.

The official noted that Diri was appreciative of Dickson’s support and has been a preacher of peace and unity across the State.

Diri, according to him, initiated efforts aimed at strengthening and keeping the PDP united and enjoyed a close relationship with Dickson.

He said enemies were seeking to “divide the party along the lines of the former APC members and old PDP members”.

Diri and Dickson continue to enjoy a harmonious relationship based on mutual respect, the statement maintained.
