Real Madrid: Benzema close to breaking Cristiano Ronaldo’s record

Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema is getting closer to breaking Cristiano Ronaldo’s club goals record at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Benzema scored in Real Madrid’s 6-0 LaLiga triumph over Levante on Thursday night, cementing his place as a Real Madrid great and one of the finest goal scorers in club history.

His first goal against Levante was a watershed event in Real Madrid history.

Benzema’s goal against Levante was his 323rd in Real Madrid colors, matching Raul Gonzalez’s record as the club’s second-highest scorer.

The France international is currently only one goal behind Ronaldo, who scored 451 goals for Real Madrid.

Benzema is Real Madrid’s third-highest scorer in LaLiga Santander’s history, with his 219 strikes behind the 228 of Raul and the 312 of Ronaldo.

The 34-year-old, who is getting better with age, has now scored 44 goals in all competitions this season, surpassing his best previous total of 32 goals in the 2011/12 and 2020/21 seasons.

The former Lyon star scored 425 career goals (323 for Real Madrid, 66 for Lyon and 36 for France), which makes him the highest French goalscorer in history, surpassing Thierry Henry’s total of 411.
