Oshiomhole wins APC Edo North Senatorial ticket

A former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Adams Oshiomhole has won the Edo North senatorial ticket of the party for the forthcoming 2023 election.

Oshiomhole defeated incumbent senator, Francis Alimikhena, after polling 309 vote against the lawmaker’s five votes even though he had withdrawn from the contest.

The party’s returning officer of the primary, Festus Ebia, said 317 delegates were accredited for the election, Oshiomhole, scored 309, Alimikhena polled five votes while three votes were voided.

Oshiomhole having scored the majority votes of 309 and satisfied the requirement of the election is hereby declared winner,” he said.

In his acceptance speech, the former Edo State governor commended the national body for conducting a transparent primary election.

“If God gives me the victory in the main election, I will ensure that the voice of Edo North would be loud and clear the same way I did as governor of the state.”

Oshiomhole promised to work with other senators to ensure that the senate functions in a manner that reflects the will and aspiration of the people.

He urged Alimikhena to find the courage to accept the outcome of the election in good fate the same way his opponent accepted him in 2015 and 2019 when he emerged.

Meanwhile, former Edo State youth leader, Valentine Asuen emerged as the party’s candidate for Edo South with 215 votes to defeat Lucky Imasuen, his rival and former Edo State deputy governor.
