27 dead in New Delhi building fire, owners arrested

There was fire outbreak at Computer Department of the Federal College of Education, Zaria, Kaduna State, on Saturday.

Over 100 computers where destroyed in the fire incident.

Firefighters fought hard to extinguish the fire which began around 9am on Saturday when workers were not at work.

The Provost of the college, Dr Suleiman Balarabe, confirmed the incident, noting steps have been taken to forestall future occurrence of such incidents.

He disclosed that the fire started from an outlet powering the Uninterruptible Power Source (UPS).

He said it had been a standing order in the college that all electrical appliances must be switched off after working hours, assuring that the computers would be replaced.

He said, “I will also bring out some computers previously given to the college by TETFund and provide a temporary place for usage to enable students continue academic activities pending the repairs of the burnt building.

“I must sincerely thank the effort of ABU Kongo and the Kaduna State Fire Service personnel who came to our rescue immediately when the fire started.
