The operatives of the Department of State Services, DSS, in Jigawa State have rescued the elderly mother of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Kano Central Senatorial District candidate, AA Zaura, less than 24 hours after she was kidnapped.

WITHIN NIGERIA had earlier reported that in the early hours of Monday, gunmen stormed Zaura town in Kano State’s Nassarawa Local Government Area and kidnapped Zaura’s mother.

Hajia Laure Mai Kunu was kidnapped just before the Muslim call to prayer at 4 a.m.

According to reports, Hajia Laure was kidnapped from her home in Zaura village, about five kilometers from the city center.

Engr. Abdullahi Garba Ramat, Chairman of Ungogo Local Government Area, confirmed the development but claimed that security agents had not officially informed him of the incident.

However, a top DSS operative who did not want his name published confirmed that his men had rescued Laure and another elderly woman who had been kidnapped nearly ten days before.

He said, “it is true that we have rescued Laure in Jigawa State, this followed a serious tip off by our men. We traced her in Jigawa and rescued her unhurt”.

The DSS further narrated that while rescuing her, they found another old woman whose ransom of N2 million was already paid out of the requested N10 million and rescued her.

Reports earlier on hinted that the kidnappers of Zaura’s mother had called from Katsina State, claiming to have taken her there.

The Kano State Police Command had said that they have arrested two persons in connection with the kidnappings, whose identities were not immediately ascertained.
