Police arrest two as cult clashes linger in Sagamu

One shot dead as rival cult groups clash in Delta

Many persons have been killed as suspected rival cult groups clashed in the Sagamu area of Ogun State.

The clash, which has been on for the past few days has caused anxiety amongst residents of the town, who reportedly said they could no longer sleep with their two eyes closed.

It was gathered that there were heavy gunshots across the town on Monday night and one person was reportedly shot dead during the clash between rival cult groups.

According to PUNCH, a resident, Shittu Jamiu, said, “One thing that surprised me most is that most of them are childhood friends, schoolmates, friends and brothers. But suddenly, in the name of cultism, they turned to enemies.”

The Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Lanre Bankole, on Tuesday visited the area to assess the situation and bring the situation under control.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, said he could not confirm the number of those killed in the cult clashes.

“I don’t know where people got such figure (of casualties) from. I don’t know about the figure of 10 people being killed; but as of this morning, we have in our custody the most wanted cultists in Sagamu.

“In fact, they are two and the two of them are currently in our custody,” Oyeyemi said.
