Gombe highway auto crash leaves nine dead, eleven injured

At least nine persons have died in an accident while traveling on the Gombe highway, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), has said.

Eleven people also sustained various degrees of injuries during the mishap.

The Sector Commander, Felix Theman, made this known in a statement on Friday.

He disclosed that the accident occurred at the Bomala Junction on the Gombe Southern bye-pass at about 8pm, as a result of brake failure from a trailer conveying gallons of vegetable oil.

According to him, 11 passengers sustained various degrees of injuries and nine other passengers lost their lives in the accident involving 20 passengers.

The sector Commander noted that those injured were taken to Gombe Specialists’ Hospital and the Federal Teaching Hospital, Gombe (FTHG), for treatment.

He advised drivers against over-speeding, especially in overcrowded areas, adding that the speed limit within the metropolis must not exceed 40 kilometre per hour.
