Seven killed as truck, bus collide in Kogi

Seven persons have lost their lives and five others injured in a head-on collision between an articulated vehicle and a Toyota Hiace bus near Koton Karfe, on Lokoja-Abuja highway, Kogi State.

The Kogi Sector Commander, Federal Road Safely Corps (FRSC), Stephen Dawulung, who confirmed the incident said the accident happened on Thursday.

Dawulung said, “When the two vehicles collided, seven persons died instantly and five persons sustained injuries.

“Our officers, who quickly rushed to the scene when alerted, were able to assist at evacuating the victims, especially the injured, for medical attention.

“Already, the injured were rushed to Koton Karfe Hospital, where they are being treated by medical personnel while the corpses were deposited at the mortuary”.

The FRSC added that the accident was caused by speeding and route violation by either of the affected vehicles.

The sector commander therefore cautioned motorists, especially drivers against night travelling and speeding warned them to always maintain their lanes.
