One person has died of monkeypox, according to Dr Ifedayo Adetifa, Director General of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), with 41 confirmed cases in the country this year.

He revealed this on Monday in Abuja during the Federal Ministry of Health’s bi-weekly COVID-19 update.

In comparison to other countries, he claims, there has been no evidence of any new or unusual virus transmission or changes in its clinical manifestation in Nigeria.

He explained, “No death had been recorded from COVID-19 in the last five weeks.”

Dr Faisal Shuaib, the Director-General of the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA), explained that 21,236,404 Nigerians had been fully vaccinated against COVID-19, representing only 19 percent of the targeted population.

He spoke through Dr Garba Bulama, the Director of Planning, Research and Statistics of the agency, saying that the data showed that the country was still far away from achieving 70 percent of the population set for September.
