Kidnapping: Zamfara NULGE chair’s wife births in captivity, regains freedom

Ramatu Yunusa, the wife of the Chairman of the Zamfara State Chapter of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees, Sanusi Gusau who was nine months pregnant when she was abducted two weeks ago, was delivered of a baby girl while in her captors’ camp.

WITHIN NIGERIA learnt that her abductors have also released her after collecting N15 million ransom.

Speaking on the incident, a family member who prefers said both the mother and the newborn baby were currently receiving medical treatment in one of the hospitals in Gusau town.

He maintained that the sum of N10 million was initially paid for ransom but when the wife was delivered of a baby girl, the bandits said they needed additional amount of money for the baby.

“We paid to the bandits the sum of N10m ransom as they demanded, but as they were about to release her, she was delivered of a baby girl.

“They told us that we must also pay additional amount for the newborn baby.

“So, after series of difficult negotiations, the bandits agreed to collect another sum of N5m as ransom for the baby.

“Both the mother and her newborn baby are currently in hospital here in Gusau town.”
