Police launch manhunt for authors of write-ups triggering panic in Abuja

The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has launched a manhunt for authors of write-ups triggering panic in the nation’s capital.

The FCT police spokesperson, DSP Josephine Adeh, who disclosed this in a statement quoted the FCT Commissioner of Police, Sunday Babaji as saying such write-ups were targeted at promoting panic and apprehension in the territory.

The commissioner urged the residents to believe only information released from official quarters.

The command also dismissed publications, especially on the social media, that there was simultaneous heavy gunfire around Dantata Bridge in Lugbe and at the Minister’s Hill in Maitama District at about 8pm on Tuesday.

Following the receipt of the news, DSP Adeh added that the command’s intelligence and tactical team moved to the scenes but found that it was false.

The statement reads in part: “Having maintained monitoring and surveillance of the areas all night, and with the intelligence at the disposal of the command, it is important to categorically state that the news is on every scale unfounded and should be disregarded.

‘’Members of the public are therefore enjoined to eschew the generation and promulgation of fake/unverified news and go about their lawful business without fear of harassment or molestation of any kind from any quarters.’’
