Gunmen kill 82-year-old ex-policeman in Imo

Tragedy as unknown gunmen reportedly murdered 82-year-old retired policeman, Francis Onuchukwu.

Hamilton Onuchukwu, son of the deceased while speaking with newsmen on Tuesday said his father was killed by a two-member gang riding on a motorcycle on Friday at Ubaha Okporo Community in Orlu Local Government Area of Imo State.

He said that his father was shot at close range on the chest and two other areas in his body.

Onuchukwu, a journalist, stressed that the incident had thrown his family into deep grief and mourning.

According to him, he was too close to his father and felt like taking his own life now that he was gone.

He equally said he has suddenly developed cardiac challenges since after the demise of his father.

He said, “I love my father so much. I was too close to him. My father was in our compound at Ubaha Okporo Community on the fateful day when two boys riding on motorcycle arrived and shot him at point-blank range. It happened at about 8:00pm.

“I’m suspecting some persons. He was an ex-policeman. The hoodlums shot him in three places. I feel like taking my life. Do you know that I developed cardiac problems since after his demise?”

The journalist further disclosed that few months earlier, some security men had visited the community, adding that while others took to their heels, his father did not being an ex-police officer thereby fueling speculations in the area that he might have turned to an informant.

He said that he had reported the murder of his father at the anti-kidnapping unit of the state police command and the Public Relations Unit of the command.

The police spokesperson, Micheal Abattam, had yet to respond to the murder incident as he didn’t take calls put across to him by our correspondent.
