Gunmen kidnap ex- Anambra lawmaker, demand ransom in dollars

A former member of the Anambra State House of Assembly, Benson Nwawulu, has been abducted by gunmen.

The gunmen, who were said to have abducted Nwawulu at his house in the Ihiala Local Government Area of the state are demanding ransom in dollars.

Nwawulu is the third lawmaker to be abducted in the three months in the state.

The two former victims, Okechukwu Okoye was beheaded, while Nelson Achukwu was also killed by his abductors.

Nwawulu, who represented Ogbaru 1 constituency until 2019, was abducted in his Ihiala country home in Ihiala local government area of the state.

The former lawmaker’s son has already reached out to some members of his father’s colleagues to raise funds to pay the random which the abductors demanded in dollars.

The state police spokesman, Tochukwu Ikenga, who confirmed the abduction said that efforts were at advanced stage to rescue him

“Yes, he was kidnapped and we are making efforts to release him as we are on their trail,” he said.
