BREAKING: Supreme Court strikes out suit seeking zoning of presidential ticket to South-East

Supeme court

The Supreme Court has dismissed a lawsuit filed against the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to compel the party to enforce its zoning and rotatory policy ahead of the 2023 presidential election.

In a decision handed down by Justice Adamu Jauro on behalf of the entire court on Friday, the suit was dismissed for lack of subject-matter jurisdiction.

Hon. Cosmos Ndukwe, a PDP presidential candidate and former deputy speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, filed the lawsuit against his party, asking for a court order compelling it to uphold the party’s zoning and rotatory policy.

Specifically, the Presidential aspirant sought for order of the court to compel PDP to zone the nomination of its presidential candidate to the South East geo-political zone of the country.

However, Justice Jauro held that the suit was not justiciable on the ground that the nomination of candidates for election is an internal affairs of political parties.
