Okada rider stabs female passenger to death over N50 in Niger

A commercial motorcyclist, also known as okada rider, stabbed a female passenger identified as Hasana to death in the Kwankashe area of Suleja, Niger State.

It was gathered that the incident happened on Sunday night when the woman boarded the bike to her house and, on getting there, handed him N150 but the bike man said her fare was N200.

According to Daily Trust, a witness, Ebuka Nonso, said that an argument over the remaining N50 turned into a heated quarrel and the okada man snatched the woman’s handset.

He said, “In the process of collecting her handset back, the okada man removed a knife from his pocket and stabbed the woman.

“Seeing that she was bleeding, and trying to return the knife to his pocket, he mistakenly stabbed himself in the thigh. He mounted his bike and fled.

“The woman was rushed to the hospital where she was confirmed dead because she had lost a lot of blood.”

Speaking with Daily Trust, the husband of the deceased, Malam Ibrahim Shehu, said the matter had been reported to the authorities while the remains of his wife had been buried according to Islamic rites.

Meanwhile, police in the area were yet to comment on the incident at the time this report was filed.
