VIDEO: Tension as traders clash with thugs in Lagos market

There is palpable tension at the Alaba international market in Lagos on Wednesday morning as traders clash with thugs popularly referred to as “area boys.”

In a video that surfaced online and monitored by WITHIN NIGERIA, a good number of traders could be seen brandishing machetes and planks with the intent to chase away the ‘area boys’ around the popular market.

There are unconfirmed reports that the traders are against the unnecessary demand for money by the area boys in the market.

There was chaos at the international market– which is known for the sales of electronics and fabrics- in Lagos as traders were said to be fed up of the constant harassment and intimidation meted on them by thugs.

In the video, a voice could be heard saying that the “chairman” gave the order to attack anyone (area boys) who confronts the marketers.
