EPL: Nine clubs told Premier League to ban Man City – Guardiola

Pep Guardiola, the manager of Manchester City, has claimed that up to nine clubs wrote to the Premier League requesting that the champions be banned.

Guardiola stated this while reacting to Chelsea’s splurge in the January transfer window.

Since the summer transfer window, the Blues have spent over €600 million on new signings.

In addition to Enzo Fernandez, who was transferred for a record-breaking €120 million from Benfica, Graham Potter’s team also received seven other players over the course of the previous month.

When asked what the reaction would be if City spent the same amount, Guardiola replied: “I know what would happen.

“What Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool, United, without good players you have to spend. Now the market is ‘wow’.

“There are regulations, I don’t forget the eight or nine teams that sent a letter to the Premier League to get us banned. We are the fifth team in net spend.”
