BREAKING: Manchester City charged for financial breaches, may have points deducted

Manchester City have been charged by the English Premier League for flouting financial fair play rules.

Reports suggest that there are multiple charges which could include possible points deduction.

The EPL charged Man City following a four-year investigation into sponsors and contracts.

A statement from the league said alleged breaches were committed across nine different seasons beginning in September of 2009-10 to 2017-18 and will now be referred to an independent commission.

During the stated period, Man City won the Premier League titles three times, one FA Cup, and three Carabao Cups.

In February 2020, City were banned from the Champions League and fined £ 25 million following investigations that proved that they had misled the European footballing governing body UEFA, and broken financial fair play rules.

The ban was however lifted by the court of arbitration for sport which also reduced the club’s fine to £9m.
