Crisis erupts in Anambra community, many feared killed

On Monday, a communal crisis erupted between the Anaku and Omor communities in Anambra State’s Ayamelum Local Government Area, killing at least five people.

Although the cause of the current crisis is still unknown, there have recently been lingering crises between the two communities.

A source in the neighborhood told newsmen that there was a new crisis and that local leaders would soon comment on the situation.

When asked about the development, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, the state police’s spokesman, said that a joint task force team made up of police and military personnel had been heavily deployed throughout the communities.

“I don’t have any brief on it yet, but in the early hours of Monday, 6/2/2023, the command received a distress call of alleged sounds of gunshots within the community of Omor and Anaku, Ayamelum LGA.

“There has been heavy deployment of a joint task force team which comprises police and military. The situation is being monitored.

“Further development shall be communicated, please,” Ikenga added.
