In response to the acute cash shortage and its accompanying excruciating pains, residents of Abeokuta, the capital of Ogun State, poured out onto the streets and into the roads on Tuesday, sparking a protest.
Aladesanmi, Fajol, and Somorin in the Obantoko neighborhood of Abeokuta were commandeered by protesters, who built bonfires and sang anti-CBN songs.
As the protesters attempted to set it on fire, the First Bank branch in Sapon was also vandalized.
Police are keeping an eye on the situation to avoid property damage and human casualties, according to Abimbola Oyeyemi, spokesman for the Ogun Police, who confirmed the protest to The Nation.
Oyeyemi, a Superintendent of Police (SP), said a group of boys is involved, stressing the Command was studying the protesters to know whether they are Okada riders or not.
Although the police stormed the locations and dispersed the protesters, they regrouped as soon as the operatives withdrew from the scene in greater intensity and made bonfires with disused tires.
The situation disrupted vehicular movement as motorists and pedestrians ran off the road in safe directions to avoid the protesters.
