Protest in Lagos market over rejection of old naira note

Ikorodu expressway is experiencing heavy traffic as a result of the violent protest that broke out in the Lagos State neighborhoods of Ketu and Mile 12.

Numerous vehicles reportedly were vandalized while protesters blocked the expressway with bonfires.

According to reports, the protest got underway after local merchants refused to accept the old 1,000 and 500 naira and 500 naira notes.

The early-arriving traders on Friday were let down by the market’s traders, who were primarily from the country’s north, who refused to accept the old naira notes.

The timely intervention of military men however prevented the situation from degenerating into loss of lives.

Soldiers have since taken over Ketu and Mile 12 areas of Ikorodu expressway
