Dermot Gallagher, a former Premier League official, has said Manchester United’s Casemiro deserved to be sent off for his tackle on Southampton midfielder Carlos Alcaraz.

Casmeiro was sent off during the first half of the league match at Old Trafford.

This is the former Real Madrid star’s second dismissal of the season, and he will now miss four games.

Gallagher said on Sky Sports: “I think definitely I think he lunges in and skims the top of the ball and catches the opponent hard across the shin with his studs. I think it is a red card.

“He’s lost control of his body for that temporary second. The result is bad I think it is a bad tackle.

“I don’t think he did win the ball, he skims off the top of the ball and goes into his opponent’s shin.”
