PDP’s Dauda Lawal unseats Zamfara governor Matawalle

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate, Dauda Lawal, has unseated Zamfara State Governor, Bello Matawalle of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Lawal scored a total of 377,726 votes to defeat Matawalle, who polled 311,976 , in what may be described as the biggest upset of the general elections.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Lawal the governor-elect in Gusau, the state capital in the early hours of Tuesday.

WITHIN NIGERIA recalls that the electoral Officer and the Returning Officer for the Zamfara State governorship election in Maradun local government area were kidnapped on their way to the collation centre.

Maradun Local Government Area is the hometown of Governor Matawalle, who is seeking re-election.

Meanwhile, the Speaker of the Zamfara State House of Assembly, Nasiru Muazu Magarya, lost his Zurmi West constituency to Bilyaminu Ismail of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

Muddasir scored 11213 votes to defeat the Speaker, Magarya of the All Progressives Congress, APC, who polled 9530 votes.
