Thomas Tuchel Becomes Bayern Munich Manager

Thomas Tuchel

Thomas Tuchel, a former Chelsea manager, was named head coach of German Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich on Thursday night, March 23, 2023.

Thomas Tuchel takes over for Julian Nagelsmann, who was reportedly fired just minutes before the news of Tuchel’s appointment went viral.

According to Fabrizio Romano, an Italian transfer news expert, Tuchel and Bayern Munich have reached a “full agreement,” and the German tactician has accepted the position.

At around 10:00 p.m. (WAT), Fabrizio tweeted, “Contract agreed, documents are being prepared tonight”.

Details about the contract’s terms, length, and objectives have yet to be made public, and the club has yet to make an official announcement as of the time of writing this report.

Nagelsmann was fired just days after leading Bayern Munich to a 2-1 loss to Bayern Leverkusen. The defeat came on the same day that their main title rivals, Borussia Dortmund, defeated Koln 6-1.

As a result, Bayern Munich entered the March international break in second place with 52 points in 25 games, one point behind first-placed Dortmund.

All things being equal, Bayern Munich’s Thomas Tuchel, who made his name in Europe as an elite manager at PSG before winning the UEFA Champions League, Super Cup, and FIFA Club World Cup at Chelsea, would face Manchester City in the Champions League quarter-finals.

Bayern will play City in the first leg at the Etihad on April 11, with the second leg in Germany on April 19. If the Germans advance, they will face Real Madrid or Chelsea in the semi-finals.
