AFCON qualifiers: European club celebrates Guinea-Bissau’s Balde for scoring against Nigeria

Following Mama Balde’s goal for Guinea-Bissau against Nigeria in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier on Friday, European club Troyes celebrated the achievement.

On Friday night at the Moshood Abiola Stadium, Guinea-Bissau defeated Nigeria 1-0 on the strength of a goal from Balde, who currently plays club football for Troyes.

In the game’s 29th minute, he scored for Guinea-Bissau to ensure that his team moved to the top of Group A with seven points after three matches.

Reacting, Troyes took to Twitter to congratulate Balde after the match.

Troyes tweeted: “Mama Balde holder and victorious with the Djurtus of Guinea-Bissau. Facing Nigeria, our striker offered victory to his team thanks to an achievement in the 29th minute of play (0-1)!”

Balde will now hope to lead Guinea-Bissau again to victory when they host the Super Eagles in the return leg on Monday.
