INEC fixes date for rerun in Ebonyi

Edo poll: INEC official arrested for ‘conniving with politicians’ to manipulate ballot papers at polling unit

The Independent National Electoral Commissioner (INEC) has fixed April 15 for Supplementary elections for Ezza North/Ishielu federal constituency and Five State House of Assembly constituencies in Ebonyi State.

The State Resident Electoral Commissioner, (REC), Pauline Onyeka stated this during the presentation of certificates of return to the Governor-elect, Francis Nwifuru, his running mate, Patricia Obila and Seventeen (17) state assembly members-elect at the INEC state headquarters, Abakaliki on Wednesday.

According to the REC, 5 constituencies have inconclusive results while two constituencies have issues which the commission is resolving.

“Only 17 members elect will receive their certificate out of 24 due to inconclusive. Two have issues to be corrected while elections were declared inconclusive in five state constituencies.

She noted that the election for Ezza North/Ishielu federal constituency was also declared inconclusive.

The INEC Certificate of Return was handed over to the Governor-Elect and Deputy GGovernor-Electby INEC National Electoral Commissioner, in charge of Ebonyi, Enugu and Imo States, Kenneth Ukeagu.

In his acceptance speech, the Governor-Elect and Speaker House of Assembly Francis Nwifuru appreciated INEC for a free and fair electoral process.

He called on his opponents to eschew all differences and work together with him for the peace and development of the State.

He promises that his administration will run an all-inclusive government.

He promised that the people’s input will be sought before taking critical decisions in his administration.

Mr Nwifụrụ further promised that the rule of law and separation of power will be entrenched and encouraged in his administration.
