Jos: Surety jailed over failure to produce accused who stole seasonings

One Sani Ukasha has been sentenced to three months imprisonment over the disappearance of the accused person he stood surety for.

The 31-year-old man, who failed to produce the suspect, who allegedly stole seasoning cubes, was sentenced by a Plateau State Area court in Jos on Friday.

The prosecutor, Insp Gokwat Ibrahim, on Thursday, informed the court that the surety failed to produce the accused person in a case of seasoning cubes theft in contravention of the State Penal Code.

Ukasha pleaded guilty to the charge and pleaded for leniency.

Justice Shawomi Bokkos, in his ruling, sentenced the surety to three months imprisonment with an option of N10,000 fine.
