EFCC arrests 20 internet fraud suspects in Kwara

In an effort to combat the increasing prevalence of internet-related fraudulent activities, particularly among young individuals, the Ilorin Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has apprehended 20 suspects involved in cybercrime.

A statement released by Wilson Uwujaren, the head of Media and Publicity at EFCC, and made available to a correspondent from The Punch in Ilorin, Kwara State on Tuesday, confirms that this arrest marks the second operation of its kind conducted in Ilorin within the past month.

It is worth noting that on May 4, 2023, the EFCC’s Ilorin Zonal Command had previously apprehended 62 suspected internet fraudsters, one of whom was a convicted individual named Raji Wasiu Babatunde. The Commission had obtained a conviction against Babatunde last year for a similar offense.

The statement said, “The latest arrest, which followed credible intelligence, took place at Egbejila, Airport Road and Offa Garage area, all in Ilorin.

“The suspects are Habeeb Abubakar, Abiola Abiodun, Atitebi Samuel, Emmanuel Mofe Oborirhwoho, John Adamson, Mayowa Akinola Victor, Oluwafemi Smith Ola, Abdullahi Isiak, Orji Daniel Roland, Martinson Adegboyega and Kolawole Temidayo.

“Others are Orimadegun Bashir Ishola, Tijani Quadri, Adebisi Kazeem, Umar Abdulkareem, Adebisi Teslim, Okunlola Idris Ayomide, Quadri Lekan, Ukueni Great and Adeyeye Usman.

“Items recovered from them upon arrest include different brands of phones, laptops and exotic cars.

“The suspects will be arraigned in court upon the conclusion of the ongoing investigations”, the statement said.
