Sokoto State Governor, Ahmed Aliyu, made a visit on Tuesday to the three communities that were targeted by bandits over the weekend. Alongside the governor was his deputy, Idris Gobir, heads of security agencies in the state, and the Sultan of Sokoto.
During the visit, Governor Aliyu expressed his strong condemnation of the attacks, labeling them as senseless and ungodly. He reassured the residents of the state that his government would not relent in its efforts to restore law and order in areas plagued by banditry.
The governor called on the residents to promptly report any suspected informants in their midst and to cooperate fully with the deployed security operatives. He empathized with the affected families and took the initiative to provide monetary assistance and food supplies to those who had lost their lives or properties in the attacks.
Furthermore, Governor Aliyu pledged to cover the medical expenses of those who were admitted to hospitals due to injuries sustained during the attacks.
THE PUNCH newspaper reported that the tragic incident resulted in the loss of over 30 lives across three villages in the Tangaza local government area. In addition to the loss of lives, the attackers set fire to houses and vehicles in these communities. The motive behind the attacks was the refusal of the villagers to comply with imposed levies.
Accompanying the governor on his visit was the former governor of the state and the leader of the APC in Sokoto, Aliyu Wamakko. The Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, also joined the delegation, accompanied by other traditional rulers.
