Enugu: Pastor recounts how he escaped kidnappers along Adani/Nsukka road

An Enugu-born pastor has narrated how he escaped being abducted by gun men along Adani/Nsukka express way.

Evang. Omeke Onyekachi recounted on his Facebook account that he was so much traumatized when he saw the daredevil criminals manhandling his colleagues in the roads.

“Two days ago, that is Thursday, June 8, I escaped being kidnapped at Adani/Nsukka road.

“I was traveling to Nsukka town from Onitsha and we ran into kidnappers. Myself and my co passengers were able to escape unhurt but the driver before us was killed and his passengers kidnapped (reported by the villagers).

“I have never seen anything that got me traumatized like the experience I had two days ago but the good news is that I am safe.

“I am sad and heartbroken about the death of the driver they killed and also for the kidnapped people. I pray that God see them through.”

WITHIN NIGERIA investigations showed that one of the kidnapped
passengers, Amobi Ugwu was also on his way from Onitsha to Nsukka when the incident happened.

According to one of his relations who preferred anonymity, ” Amobi went to Onitsha for bulk purchase of goods.

“When they got to Adani around 7pm, his driver told him that he will sleep over and continue the journey the next day. But Amobi insisted that he (Amobi) must get to Nsukka that night.

” However, the driver had to transfer Amobi’s goods to another driver who was also desperate to get to Nsukka that night.

” When they got to a place called Ugwu rice (rice farmland), some gun men shot their vehicle tyres and also shot driver who died immediately while Amobi was kidnapped.”

Asked if the kidnappers have contacted Amobi’s relations for ransom, our source explained that ” yes, they have contacted them for ransom. They didn’t state the amount. The relations pleaded with them to accept five hundred thousand naira only for the abductors to switch off the phone.

“Since then, they have not contacted the relations.”

WITHIN NIGERIA also gathered that  Adani/Nsukka road has since become a hot bed for kidnappers and other criminal activities in the council.

When contacted on phone, the Police Public Relations Officer of Enugu state police command Daniel Ndukwe couldn’t pick up his call for confirmation.
