The Ad-hoc Committee on Crude Oil Theft of the House of Representatives has demanded that the heads of the Nigeria National Petroleum Ltd (NNPCL), the Nigeria Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), and the Nigeria Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA) appear in person for an investigation.
The chairman, Hon. Alhassan Rumrum, indicated this during the panel’s resumed hearing yesterday when heads of agencies invited were represented by directors.
On Thursday, lawmakers gave NNPCL, NIMASA, and other agencies, as well as ministers, a 24-hour deadline to appear before them and account for oil theft.
However, the heads of the agencies instead sent representatives, and the committee, irritated by this action, resolved that they appear on Monday without fail.
They are to list all other agencies involved in the country’s oil sector’s export terminals.
The committee’s chairman revealed that the majority of the invited heads of agencies had written to the panel requesting permission to be represented by their subordinate staff because they were unable to appear in person and honour the invitation.
NSCDC alerts on fake recruitment letters
Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, (NSCDC), has alerted Nigerians on the circulation of fake and invalid employment letters purportedly from the Corps, warning unsuspecting and desperate job seekers to take caution in order not to fall victim to fraudsters and scammers.
According to a statement credited to the Crops Public Relations Officer, (PRO), Babawale Afolabi, the Corps have been inundated with complaints from victims who had parted with their hard-earned money ranging from N250,000 to N500,000 before they were issued the fake letters only to get to the NSCDC office and find out that they have been scammed.
