‘Stolen’ genitals: Abuja court jails two for false claim, defamation of character

Joseph Daudu

Two men, Basil Eze and Awaisu Jibrin, have been sentenced to three months imprisonment each for defamation of character.

The duo were sentenced by a Karu Upper Area Court in Abuja on Friday after they pleaded guilty to defaming one Yakubu Tijani.

The judge, Malam Isa Adamu, however, gave the convicts, who reside in Garki, Abuja, the option of a fine of N10,000 each.

Earlier, the prosecution counsel, Olarewaju Osho, told the court that the complainant, Tijani, reported the matter at the Garki Police Station on Oct. 4, after the defendants accused him of “shrinking “ their genitals after he approached them and asked for directions to a street.

However, during police investigation, the convicts were taken to a hospital where it was confirmed that their genitals were not “stolen.”

The offence, he said, contravened the provisions of Section 392 of the Penal Code
