Senate Confirms Three Additional INEC RECs

Their confirmation followed the adoption of a motion by Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele (APC-Ekiti Central) at the Committee of the Whole.

The Senate, on Thursday, screened and confirmed three nominees for the position of Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs) of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

WITHIN NIGERIA reports that President Bola Tinubu had nominated ten persons for the REC positions for a five-year term each in accordance with the provisions of Section 154(1) of the Constitution.

Those screened and confirmed by the lawmakers during Thursday’s plenary are:

Dr Bunmi Omoseyindemi – Lagos State Resident Electoral Commissioner

Abubakar Dambo – Zamfara State Resident Electoral Commissioner

Dr Anugbum Onuoha- Rivers State Resident Electoral Commissioner.

Their confirmation followed the adoption of a motion by Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele (APC-Ekiti Central) at the Committee of the Whole.

Mr. Bamidele, who was presenting the motion, asked the Senate to take President Bola Tinubu’s appeal for the appointment’s ratification into consideration.

The Senate suspended Rule 12 and permitted the nominees and their visitors to enter the chamber prior to the screening and confirmation process.

The nominees were escorted into the chamber by Senator Abdullahi Gumel, the President’s Senior Special Assistant on National Assembly Matters (Senate).

Before being officially confirmed, each nominee then had a chance sharing the highlights of their professional backgrounds and career profiles.
