UNIUYO Sanctions 26 Students Over Misconduct

Three students were rusticated, three sanctioned with indefinite suspension

The University of Uyo (UNIUYO) in Akwa Ibom State has imposed sanctions, including outright expulsion, rustication, and indefinite suspension, on no fewer than 26 erring students for engaging in various crimes that have a negative impact on the institution’s reputation. According to a source, these crimes range from academic frauds to other anti-social behaviours.

The school’s administration said on Thursday that the decision to remove the responsible students was made during the 127th and 128th Senate sessions, which were presided over by Vice Chancellor Prof. Nyaudoh Ndaeyo on August 30 and October 4, 2023, respectively.

Checks revealed that the affected students are from the faculties of agriculture, science, engineering, arts, management sciences, and pharmacy. Of these, three were rusticated, three were suspended indefinitely for not showing up for an appropriately constituted panel, and three were outright expelled.

“The Senate of the University of Uyo, at its 127th meeting held on Wednesday, August 30, 2023, sanctioned nine erring students of the institution to deter other students from misconducts that do not portray the brand of excellence for which the University stands for.

“Three students were rusticated, three sanctioned with indefinite suspension, while another three were expelled from the institution.

“Also, Senate at its 128th meeting of Wednesday, October 4, 2023, rusticated another 17 erring students and directed that names of the affected students be punished so as to deter others from such misdemeanours,” the statement from the Registrar’s office stressed.
